Native American Day
To culminate our unit on Native Americans, all second grade classes joined together to do special activities centering around the customs and traditions of Native Americans. We went on a hike to gather items for our dioramas. We also shared a very special meal, prepared by our parents, that included food that would have been authentic to the Native Americans. It was delicious! Thank you to all of the parent volunteers for making this a fun tradition for all of second grade!

Campfire Stories
One of the many great traditions at Columbus Academy is our annual campfire stories. We shared this special time with our Pre-K buddies. Our fantastic librarians, Mrs. Oeth and Mrs. Arner, told us captivating stories around the campfire. Then we made s'mores and drank hot chocolate! It was a perfect fall day!

Mountains, lakes, and rivers! Oh my!
In culmination of our land and water feature study, 2A worked together to create our own land masses. Our 3D maps demonstrated our understanding of this map skills unit in a creative way. Wouldn't you like to visit "Fun Time," "Halloween Town," "Super Candy World," "Beach Paradise Island," and "Universe?" Our maps each included land and water features as well as a map key. Each group was eager to share their maps with the entire class. Thanks again to the parents who made the dough for this activity.

Special Friend Day
Thank you to everyone who came and participated in Special Friend Day!
We started off the morning with introductions. After introductions, your second grader instructed his or her friend in an activity. They were able to show off their memory book, read their published work and present their family tree. After their presentation, they walked the halls to show off our very own art gallery. The hallways are very colorful right now!
We finished the day with music and sent our second graders home with their special friends. It was a day full of smiles!

Outdoor Week
Our Fireworks were lucky enough to have a nice and warm Outdoor Week.
We enjoyed extra recess!
We played with new toys...
...and new sand in the sandbox!
Bubbles were a big hit.
The nature hike was a big hit, too!
We picked out pet rocks, and we decorated them in class.
We enjoyed days of dress down and measurement math lessons outdoors. It was fun to join the other second grade classes to hike and play!
