Dinosaur Timeline

2A is starting a new unit on dinosaurs! To give our students an idea about how long ago and for how long dinosaurs were around, we put on our coats and went outside for a timeline walk. Morgan marked present time by holding a sign saying, 'NOW'. From there, each of our steps represented 1 million years. So, two steps past Morgan was Katie, who marked the presence of the first human beings (2 million years ago). Next, students took 63 steps to visualize when the last dinosaurs were around (65 million years ago)...Claudia W. held this place for her class.  After another 150 steps and having reached the admissions building, students realized just how long dinosaurs were on this Earth, as this final stop marked the existence of the first dinosaurs.  Students were shocked at how little of time humans have been around compared to the dinosaurs. They are very eager to learn more about these incredible species.
